Our Goals—

Our Vision

The Pinole History Museum is a grass roots initiative of local citizens who are committed to preserving the rich history of the city of Pinole. The vision of the museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is to provide interactive information and lessons from the rich history of the San Francisco Bay Area and Pinole.

Much personal history surrounds our everyday lives — street names, park lands, named schools, old houses and other structures, and especially people whose recollections will be lost if not recorded and preserved somewhere that is accessible to scholars, students, and the curious.

The stories of Pinole include those of the Huchuin Native Americans, Spanish exploration, the Ygnacio Martinez land grant, local commerce, cultural norms through the changing eras, architecture, the arts, and the natural environment.

Our population is increasingly diverse, technologically savvy — and young! The Pinole History Museum will be a place where all cultures that have contributed to the city’s history will be represented.

Our presentations and exhibits will be technologically advanced as well. With a limited amount of space, we intend to utilize the audio and video to enhance the static exhibits, and also create a virtual online museum so people can appreciate the city’s history from wherever they may be.

We intend to be contemporary while being historical, offering a museum where visitors can walk through the city’s past into the present, and envision the future.

PRESERVING OUR HISTORY

The Pinole History Museum will offer educational programs for all ages, along with permanent and rotating exhibits, a research room, collection of historical artifacts, a garden, and a community space for various educational programs.

Primarily, and especially in the first few years, the audience would draw locally from Pinole, which has a population of 19,369.

In the first year, the target is 1,000-1,500 students in partnership with schools, and 500-750 adults. The long-term goal is to reach our surrounding ethnically and
economically diverse communities as well.

The Pinole History Museum will be a place where all cultures that have contributed to the city’s history will be represented.

We intend to showcase current and past history by offering a museum where visitors can walk through the city’s past into the present.

The Pinole History Museum board maintains a strong relationship with the Pinole Historical Society and often co-sponsors special events, fund-raising events, as well as history-based contests and activities for youth of all ages.
